Residents of the 1000 block of Dunlop Avenue restrained a man who broke their car window and stole items from the vehicle on Nov. 29 at 2:25 a.m.

One of the victims said she was in her bedroom when she heard a shattering noise outside. She looked out the window to see a man rummaging through her vehicle She pressed the panic button on her key fob, hoping the criminal would be scared away, but the sound did not interrupt him.

Another family member also saw the perpetrator through a window ransacking the car. The three residents went outside and saw the suspect walking down the street. One of the residents physically brought the offender to the ground and restrained him until police arrived.

A brick was located inside of the vehicle amid shattered glass. The thief had taken a pair of sunglasses and headphones. He said he was looking for spare change and hadn’t broken the window.

Later that morning, a woman on the 900 block of Dunlop discovered a car window broken and a brick on the passenger seat, along with items that did not belong to her.

Another resident on the 900 block of Dunlop also reported a car window broken with a brick. No items were taken, but an empty bottle of Grey Goose vodka was found next to the car.

Open alcohol citation for man drinking on bench

A man on a bench near Harlem Avenue and Madison Street was issued a citation for open alcohol on Nov. 29 at 11:09 a.m. He had a can of beer in a bag under the bench. Officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol. He stated the beer was his, and he had a second can of Steel Reserve 211 under his jacket.

An open alcohol citation was issued to the passenger of a car on the 7600 block of Madison Street on Nov. 29 at 1:15 a.m. The car was pulled over because a front headlight was out, the vehicle was missing a rear window, and the car had extensive body damage.

When the officer began to speak to the driver, he noticed a glass bottle with brown liquid inside, suspected to be alcohol. The passenger said it was his and was issued an open alcohol citation. The driver was given a ticket for no front headlight.

Car burglarized overnight

A car on the 7400 block of Roosevelt Road was burglarized overnight on Nov. 25. The victim said his wallet with various cards inside was missing. There was no damage to the vehicle, and the victim said he thinks the rear driver side might not have locked properly.

An employee of 7-Eleven, 205 Harlem Ave., was sitting in his car on Nov. 25 at 3:14 p.m. when two male offenders, who had just purchased a pizza in the gas station, threw a brick at the front right quarter panel of the employee’s vehicle, causing a small dent.

Uber driver attacked

An Uber driver on the 900 block of Washington in Oak Park was assaulted by a customer who ran from the scene into Forest Park on Nov. 27 at 10:10 a.m. The driver had picked up a customer who was not wearing a mask. When the driver insisted the customer put one on, an argument ensued. Eventually, the offender punched the driver in the back of the head and “threw some kind of soft drink” on him before exiting the vehicle. He entered the currency exchange on the corner of Madison Street and Harlem Avenue, then ran westbound down Madison Street to Starbucks.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Nov. 23-29, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
