On Dec. 7, an 89-year-old woman died of complications from COVID-19, and on Dec. 8, a 64-year-old man succumbed to the disease. That makes 21 virus-related deaths among Forest Park residents, seven in just two weeks.
Of the 21 Forest Park residents that have died, 12 were residents of Aperion Care Forest Park, 8200 Roosevelt Road. That’s not surprising, given the fact that long-term care facilities and nursing homes have been hit hard by COVID outbreaks and deaths throughout the state.
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Aperion Care Forest Park had one resolved outbreak of COVID-19, with no cases in the past 28 days, in which 51 people, including staff and patients, were infected. Six died.
Another outbreak, unresolved as of Dec. 9 according to the IDPH website, has infected 41 individuals and so far is responsible for four deaths, according to the website on Dec. 11.
