Police responded to reports of a “slumper” in a car at Roosevelt Road and Desplaines Avenue on Dec. 15 at 6:51 a.m. The car was not moving.
The fire department parked a vehicle in front of the car, and the police parked behind it. The officer opened the driver’s door and told him to put the vehicle in park and get out of the car.
The driver, described as having glassy eyes and slurred speech and smelling of alcohol, did not cooperate. Instead, he drove away “at a high rate of speed,” according to the police report, running a red light.
The car was observed again by Forest Park police at Cermak and Desplaines with the driver again slumped over the wheel. The offender took off again when he saw the police.
A Chicago police helicopter later spotted the vehicle stalled on I-290 around 25th Avenue. A male reportedly exited the vehicle and was running away from it.
Police took the man into custody and brought him to the station, where he said, “I would’ve gotten away if my car didn’t run out of gas,” according to the police report.
He was charged with the felonies of aggravated fleeing/eluding a police officer and aggravated DUI.
Gun found in repossessed car
An employee of Greater Chicago Finance, 8331 Roosevelt Road, called police on Dec. 15 at 11:33 a.m. when she was alerted that a car that had just been repossessed had a gun in the back seat. The black and silver handgun was in a black Gucci purse on the floor in the back seat. It was loaded, with one bullet in the chamber and 13 in the magazine. Another loaded magazine was found in the purse.
Catalytic converter stolen
A man on the 7300 block of Madison Street called police on Dec. 17 at 7:24 p.m. when he turned on his car, noticed it sounded louder than normal, and discovered his catalytic converter had been stolen.
Cars damaged overnight
A man on the 300 block of Circle Avenue called police on Dec. 19 at 12:16 a.m. when he discovered extensive damage had been done to his car. Police observed a large scratch and a broken windshield, most likely caused by a brick thrown at it. There was also damage to the hood. The victim said the trunk was open when he initially observed the damage, but he did not notice anything missing.
The back window of a car was smashed out and a piece of concrete lay near the back bumper on the 7700 block of Harvard Street on Dec. 19. Police were called, on Dec. 20 at 9:54 a.m., to investigate
