During a Jan. 14 meeting, the District 91 school board said they “have someone in mind” for the position of superintendent.

“We are moving forward with the nuts and bolts of making that happen, and we are planning on having a special meeting to approve this person,” board president Kyra Tyler said during the meeting.

The special meeting and announcement of who the superintendent is will tentatively be held at the end of the month, Tyler said. She indicated that the community will be notified ahead of time of the event, which will be held via Zoom.

“My colleagues and I are really excited about this,” Tyler said. “And we’re really looking forward to sending Dr. Cavallo off and his legacy off in really good hands.”

Board member Monique Cotton, who was part of the superintendent search committee, said she wasn’t sure what to expect going into the search, but she was impressed with the quality and number of candidates for the position.

The candidates, she said, “came in so prepared with knowledge about our district and our town, every single one of them that we met. They knew the good and the bad, and they were all fully qualified. It was really hard for us to narrow it down, and it makes me proud that we got such qualified candidates, who knew all about our town and were so willing and excited to come here.”
