A 25-year-old man identified as Israel Mendez of Maywood was killed in a shooting near Harlem Avenue and Circle Avenue on March 20.

Police responded to the location for a report of shots fired, according to a press release from the Forest Park Police Department (FPPD).

Once there, they discovered that an occupant of a vehicle parked outside the CTA Green Line station at Harlem Avenue and Circle Avenue had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was taken to Loyola Hospital and pronounced dead.

FPPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating, assisted by the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

“At this time this incident does not appear to be random and there is no reason to believe there is an imminent threat to the community,” states a press release from the FPPD.
