On April 7, police responded to the call of a possible carjacking at Dollar Tree, 7709 Roosevelt Rd.
The victim reported that her car was parked in the lot and while checking out, she saw her vehicle being driven away. According to police, she ran out of the store and pulled on the door handle to attempt to enter the car before it drove away. She was pulled to the ground as the car sped off.
Police said the victim then entered a citizen’s car, and they followed the stolen auto.
A description of the vehicle was broadcast, and police stopped the stolen car near Harvard and Lathrop Avenue, at which point the driver was positively identified and arrested.
The offender was caught and is in police custody.
More to come.
