Forest Park’s new District 91 elementary school district superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Alvarez participated in a WBEZ-moderated discussion on equity in education on April 15.

The Zoom webinar, “Equity in Education for All: Closing the Gap,” was moderated by Kate Grossman, a senior educational editor for WBEZ.

The virtual conference was sponsored by Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC), a non-profit organization founded in 1983 that hosts an annual series, “All Hands on Deck: Reimagining Chicago.”

Alvarez, an LGC fellow since 2015, was one of the guest speakers, pulling from her experience as the Chief of Network 8 for Chicago Public Schools to discuss closing gaps such as the digital divide.

Other panelists included Dr. Janice Jackson, CEO of Chicago Public Schools and Natalie Neris, chief of community engagement for Kids First Chicago.

Alvarez was enthusiastically hired by the D91 school board in January. She officially begins on July 2.
