A fire in the stairwell of an 18-unit apartment building at 1229 Harlem Ave. shut down southbound traffic on Harlem Avenue on May 5 around 3 p.m. The fire, which caused the temporary evacuation of some residents, was put out quickly by the Forest Park Fire Department. Oak Park, North Riverside, and Berwyn fire departments also responded.
Forest Park Fire Chief Phil Chiappetta said there were no injuries, and all tenants will be able to return to their apartments. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
