The spirit of ‘76 could be found all around Forest Park 45 years ago, as locals celebrated the Bicentennial. Residents painted garages and grew beards, and the park hosted a donkey softball game. This Roy Strom garbage truck became a Bicentennial billboard that year. It was painted by Roy Strom, left, grandson of the firm’s founder under the admiring eye of his father George, right. The rig made appearances in several area parades and was in the Strom fleet, never refusing refuse.
