Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore found its home at 7419 Madison St. in Forest Park back in September 2000. Owner Augie Aleksy moved the independent bookstore to the village after spending a decade at 743 Garfield St. in Oak Park to take advantage of a larger space and location on a busy main street.
Aleksy’s shop still specializes in history and mystery titles more than two decades later, and he still provides his customers the opportunity to do more than purchase books at this store.
Frequent author readings, discussion groups, special programs and the notable singers at the holiday stroll have been staples at his warm and welcoming bookstore.
In an interview in 2000, Aleksy said, “I’m lucky. Talking to authors, talking to customers, I learn new things every day. This is what I love to do.”
