The Home Guard, also known as the Local Defence Volunteers, of Forest Park served the community during World War I. In November 1917, the men raised $900 in funds for the War Camp Recreation Fund, which was chaired by Henry Reich. The Forest Park Review published poems from residents, including one heralding the local heroes who answered the call to volunteer, rather than “lounge at the clubs.”
