Haymarket Martyrs Monument and Radical Row Tour

Join the Historical Society of Forest Park for an hour-long tour of Haymarket Martyrs Monument and Radical Row Tour. Learn the story of the Haymarket Affair, the monument and more. $10 donation requested. Tour starts at 11 a.m. on Oct. 6 at Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Desplaines Ave. Park near the office at Desplaines Avenue.

Forest Home Cemetery Bus Tour

Join officials from the Hisotrical Society of Forest Park for a 90-minute tour of Forest Home Cementery, starting at the Haymarket Martyr's Monument, learn about anarchists like Emma Goldman, victims fo the Iroquois Theater Fire, the 1960 helicopter crash and more. Tour meets in the cemetery parking lot behind the cemetery office. Starts at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7 at Forest Home Cemetery, 863 Desplaines Ave. Tickets $15. Reserve your space at forestparkhistory.org.

Second Annual Cemetery Scavenger Hunt

Join officials from the Historical Society of Forest Park for a scavenger hunt in Forest Home Cemetery. The group offers two options—an easier one, for children, families and newcomers to Forest Home, along with a more difficult scavenger hunt for those who already know Forest Home well. Take a picture of each item, show the photo to Historical Society officials and, once you're done, receive a prize. Scavenger hunt runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Forest Home, 863 Desplaines Ave. Tickets $8. Reserve your space forestparkhistory.org.

Oktoberfest

Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center in celebrating Oktoberfest from 9:15 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 at The Jacob Henry Estate in Joliet. Enjoy an authentic German lunch; listen to traditional Bavarian, Austrian and Slovenian Polka Music; and spend an hour at Hollywood Casino. $85 residents; $89 non-residents. Reservations required. McAdam Pumpkin Party

It's time again for the annual McAdam Nursery and Garden Center's Pumpkin Party, from 12 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 20 at 2001 Desplaines Ave. Expect hay rides, face painting, pumpin painting and more.  

Grease

Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 10 as they travel to The Fireside in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, for a viewing of Grease, one of the world's most popular musicals. Lunch includes sweet corn chowder, fried chicken, BBQ pork ribs, mashed potatoes, broccoli, coleslaw, lemon cheese pie and more. $91 resident; $95 non-resident. Reservations required. Rise N' Learn

Listen to Haley Fox, assistant professor and training coordinator at Adler University, define sexual terminology, identify contertransference responses and how to manage them, and more. Author Discussion and Signing

Attend Centuries and Sleuths Bookstore for an author discussion and signing of Jim Doherty's "Obscure Grave" and a short story in "Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective Vol. 11." Talk starts at 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 at 7419 Madison St.

Explore Our Forest Preserves

Join officials from the Forest Park Public Library and learn about the history of the Forest Preserves, the importance of these spaces to wildlife, and ways to get involved in preserving and restoring them. Fun runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.

Booktoberfest Author Fair and Family Lit Fest

Meet some eight local authors and discover new reads for those of all ages. Families can join officials from the Forest Park Public Library for a Booktoberfest storytime, followed by a musical performance by performer Nick Davio. Fest runs from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 6 at 7555 Jackson Blvd.
