The library at Forest Park Middle School hosted a staff potluck lunch on Thursday, October 29, 2015. The school hosts several Library lunches throughout the year with various themes to bring together the faculty. They are small informal themed lunches where everyone brings a dish. It just so happens that the theme chosen for the first lunch was "Body by Bacon". Soon after determining the theme, librarian Cheryl Bussert and Library Media Information Specialist Richard Hern read my Bacon Quest articles in Forest Park Review's annual Fall Food & Fun section and invited me to join them at their bacon lunch.
With over 15 different creative homemade dishes featuring bacon, and even a variety of the newest bacon chips and snacks, the lunch was one any bacon lover would appreciate. The library staff made a poster with print-outs of the Bacon Quest stories, and had copies of the Bacon Quiz that was in the section available for the staff to test their knowledge of America's favorite cut of pork. Spanning across the school's three lunch periods, staff could help themselves to everything from bacon-wrapped hot dogs to bacon quiche. Plus, there was a guessing game for how many pounds of bacon were used to make all the different foods. The answer: 30!
Thanks so much to Richard and Cheryl for inviting me! It was the perfect kick-off to Halloween weekend!
