A free discount prescription card that is now available to Proviso residents can come in handy during cold and flu season. In addition to providing discounts of up to 74 percent on prescriptions, the card also covers flu shots.
“We hope residents take advantage of this program, especially during cold and flu season,” said Proviso Mental Health Commission Executive Director Jesse Rosas. “We hope it provides greater access to health and wellness for members of our community.”
The cards are available free and for everyone regardless of where they live. The card is available to anyone regardless of income, age, or health status. Everyone is eligible for the savings whether or not they are insured. The cards can be used at any pharmacy.
According to Commission Board President Michael Corrigan, hundreds of residents have already taken advantage of the program. In total, tens of thousands of dollars have been saved by members of the community.
In the first five months after the program was unveiled earlier this year, 346 claims were submitted, resulting in savings of more than $16,000, or an average of 62.6 percent per claim.
The process to use the card is very simple and does not require a person to release any private details about his or her medical or financial history. There is no paperwork to fill out and no registration process. Residents need not provide any personal details other than a phone number as an identification number. No commitment on the part of residents is required. Residents simply present the card when paying for prescriptions or flu shots. If individuals have insurance, they can present both cards and opt for coverage that’s better.
The Coast2Coast card also provides 50 to 80 percent discounts for some lab and imaging tests and discounts on some dental, veterinary, and vision services. Discounts on diabetes supplies and equipment as well as hearing services are also available. The card can be used with mail order services. Seniors on Medicare Part D prescription coverage may find it beneficial by saving money on some medicine during their “donut hole” gap in coverage.
“Cardholders information is kept confidential,” said Corrigan. “Names and prescription information are never sold, rented, or shared in any way. No one using a card will ever be contacted for any marketing purpose.”
Officials have also been working with Coast2Coast to distribute the cards throughout the Township. Cards are available at the Township Office and online at www.coast2coastrx.com/provtwp/. One card covers an entire family and can be used throughout the United States, not just in Proviso Township.
