Mayor Anthony Calderone's Community Toy Drive 

Bring a new, unwrapped gift or giftcard at the drive from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 12 at R Place, 1527 Harlem Ave. Enjoy free appetizers and soft drinks. A cash bar will be available. Call the Howard Mohr Community Center at 708-771-7737 with questions. 

Breakfast with Santa

Enjoy breakfast with Santa from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 at the Park District of Forest Park's Roos Recreation Center, 7329 W. Harrison St. Registration required. Meet Us at the Movies: The Hate U Give

The Forest Park Public Library was selected for a free screening of The Hate U Give. Teens ages 13 to 18 are eligible for a free ticket. Registration online through Eventbrite is required. Meet Miss Regina and Miss Chris at the lobby of the AMC Galewood Crossing 14, 5530 Homer St. in Chicago, at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 8. Adults can attend, but must pay for their own ticket. Library representatives will be at the screening but will not be responsible for minors. 

Hollywood Does the Holidays

Recap some of the best holiday-themed movies with presenter Bob Burton, and test your memory with a Hollywood Holiday Trivia Challenge, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 7 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd. 

Meeting of the G.K. Chesterton Society of Metropolitan Chicago

Discuss "The Ballad of St. Barbara" from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St.

Knitting With Friends

Join officials from the Forest Park Public Library for a drop-in knitting group to help stock the Little Free Pantry with warm clothes for the winter. Beginning and advanced knitters welcome. If you bring your own yarn with needles, please make it washable yarn. Knitting runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 at 7555 Jackson Blvd.

The Play That Goes Wrong

Join officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center for a trip to the Oriental Theater in Chicago to see The Play That Goes Wrong, from 8:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 12. Lunch at Latinicity included, and attendees will have time to shopt at Block 37 or Garrett's next to the theater. Cost $84 residents, $88 non-residents. Reservations required. Call the Howard Mohr Community Center at 708-771-7737 to sign up. 

"Faith of a Son" Puppet Show

At 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 9 at the Forest Park Baptist Church, 133 Harlem Ave., see a video collaboration of church members along with Michael Thomas' puppet creation. Thomas wrote a short play, using puppets, where a shepherd boy discovers the meaning of Christmas. 

Author Discussion and Signing: John Helmke

John Helmke, pastor emeritus at St. John Lutheran Church, will discuss his new book "Philipp Hesse: Unlikely Hero of the Reformation" at 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St.  

Twisted Cookie Storytime

Join officials from the Forest Park Public Library for stories and crafts from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 10 at Twisted Cookie, 7401 Madison St. Register at fppl.org.
