Food and Toiletry Drive

The Forest Park Public Library will be collecting food and toiletry items to benefit its Little Free Food Pantry during business hours every day through April 14. Drop off items at the Patron Services Desk at 7555 Jackson Blvd. During this time, canned goods and non-perishable food items can be used to pay off library fines owed.

Genealogy Meetup

Learn about the different aspects of genealogy research from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on April 13 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.

Five Authors Discussion and Signing

Don't miss a discussion and book signing by five authors from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 14 at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St.

Author T.G. Wolff will be presenting "Exacting Justice;" A.C. Frieden will discuss "The Pyongyang Option;" M. Todd Henderson will present "Mental State;" and Trey R. Barker will present "When the Lonesome Dog Barks."

Legislative Training 

Learn how to successfully lobby and make your vote count every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Progress Center for Independent Living, 7521 Madison St. Contact Larry Biondi to sign-up or make accommodation requests at 708-209-1500 ext. 24 or LBiondi@progresscil.org.

Junction Diner Storytime

Join officials from the Forest Park Public Library at the Junction Diner for storytime and take home craft from 12 to 12:30 p.m. on April 12 at 7401 Madison St. Children ages 3 to 5.

Bird Walk

Explore with Chicago Ornithological Society in search of early spring migrants, including Wilson's snipe and American pipit at 7:30 a.m. on April 13 at Miller Meadow- South, 1st Avenue in Forest Park.

Easter Bazaar 

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 17 to 20, Always in Style will have its annual Easter Bazaar at 7516 ½ Madison St., where it will sell soap, candies, cookies and more from nuns at the famous St. John Chrysostomos Greek Orthodox Monastery in Wisconsin. 

"It's really noteworthy, it's really great and people come from all over to shop," said local patron and fan Jean Leinweiber.  

Crosstown Classic 

Staff from Grant White and Field-Stevenson elementary schools will duke it out in a volleyball game that will benefit the Northside PTC and Southside PTO at 5:30 p.m. on April 10 at Forest Park Middle School, 925 Beloit Ave. Raffle tickets and concessions will be sold at the game.  

WE Day Charity Kickball Game 

Forest Park District 91 students will hold a charity volleyball game from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. on April 17 at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St. 

Writers' Circle 

Iowa Writers' Workshop alum Beth Wetmore will lead a workshop for writers of all levels from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on April 10 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.

G.K. Chesterton Meeting

Join fellow book-lovers for a discussion of Charles Dickens' "The Pickwick Papers" from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 13 at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St.

The Morton Arboretum

Officials from the Howard Mohr Community Center will lead a group to The Morton Arboretum on April 17. Enjoy a gourmet boxed lunch that will be provided. Cost $75 for residents, and $79 for non-residents. Reservations required. Please call the Howard Mohr Community Center at 708-771-7737 to sign up.

Personal Assistant Recruitment and Training 

The Progress Center for Independent Living is recruiting personal assistants and certified nursing assistants to assist people with disabilities in their homes. The job offers flexible hours and full- and part-time work. No previous experience is necessary. Personal assistants are currently offered $13.48 per hour. People with all abilities are encouraged to apply. Training runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on April 10 at the Howard Mohr Community Center, 7640 Jackson Blvd. For more information and to register, call Rhychell Barnes, personal assistant advocate, at 708-689-1381. 

Trivia Night at The Beacon Pub

Join officials from the Forest Park Public Library for trivia from 7 to 9 p.m. on April 11 at The Beacon Pub, 101 Circle Ave.
