4th of July Celebration
Fireworks are scheduled for 9 p.m. but the park district will be hosting plenty of fun activities before then for its annual July 4 celebration.
Monarch Community Science Project With The Field Museum
This summer, the Field Museum's Keller Science Action Center is focused on creating community scientist volunteers to track the survival rates of monarch butterfly caterpillars and milkweed plants in their community. Learn how to be part of the initiative from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on July 8 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.
Haymarket Martyrs Monument and Radical Row Tour
Join the Historical Society of Forest Park for a tour of Haymarket Martyrs Monument and Radical Row Tour from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on July 6 at the Haymarket Martyrs Monument, 863 Desplaines Ave. Learn the story of the Haymarket Affair, the monument and those who choose to be buried near this monument in honor of the eight-hour work day and those who died for it. $10 donation is requested.
Garage Galleries Call for Artists
Don't forget to submit your application to feature your artistic work in this year's Garage Galleries. Submit your application by August 1 at tinyurl.com/garagegalleries. The event will be held on August 24.
Progress Center Open House
Learn what services the Progress Center for Independent Living offers youth and families experiencing disabilities from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on July 10 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.
Under the Story Tree
Still Waters Preschool Co-Op will read stories about trees and people from 3:30 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the community gardens, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 305 Circle Ave. All ages invited.
Ronald McDonald Mobile Clinic
The Ronald McDonald Mobile clinic will offer students free vaccinations and physical examinations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 11 at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St. Students will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.
Activist Knitting: An American Tradition
Learn about prominent knitters from our country's the past from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on July 10 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.
Faux Pas Comedy Show
The Forest Park Arts Alliance is holding a comedy fundraiser to construct a new mural along Circle Avenue bridge, on the side that faces the Roos Recreation Center. Four local comedians with serious credentials will perform from 8 to 9:30 p.m. on July 18 at Murphy's, 7414 W. Madison St. Tickets cost $15. Purchase online at https://bit.ly/31KQ7eC
Junction Diner Storytime
Children ages 3 to 5 can enjoy a storytime and craft from 12 to 12:30 p.m. on July 5 at The Junction Diner, 7401 Madison St.
Forest Home Cemetery Bicycle Tour

House and Garden Walk
The Historical Society of Forest Park will host its second annual House and Garden Walk from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 14. Visit seven Forest Park houses and gardens for one day only. Start your tour at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore, 7419 Madison St., to pick up your guidebook. Visit all seven locations at your own pace. Once you've seen all seven houses you'll be able to vote for Best in Show. Purchase advance tickets for $15 online at forestparkhistory.org or by cash or check at Centuries & Sleuths. Purchase tickets the day of for $20. The Historical Society is also looking for volunteers to work three-hour shifts—from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers will receive two free tickets.
