Kiwanis Club of Forest Park has been raising funds for local and international youth through their Peanut Days for over 60 years. Looking back to the early years of Peanut Days, local businesses, business leaders, community leaders and Forest Park Youth groups knew the value of the peanut.
This ad from the September 1958 Forest Park Review features several local restaurants from yesteryear like Homer’s, The Pine’s and Vic and Vi’s tavern. In addition White Way (now Ed’s Way), Peaslee Hardware (now Schauer’s Hardware) and Randolph-Des Plaines Liquors (now Pioneer Tap) are just some of the businesses that have changed names but not their missions. Circle Bowling Lanes and Forest Park National Bank are still anchors in town and without a doubt are still supporting our local Kiwanis Club.
This week locals will be out with cans at corners, at the soccer fields and at businesses. Kiwanis gives everyone the opportunity to be someone special, and in Forest Park our youth groups always have the Kiwanis Club to lean on.
