Air fryer causes apartment fire | Police reports Jan. 4-10
Police were called to assist the Forest Park Fire Department and other area fire departments with a blaze in a unit of a building on the 7400 block of Washington Street on Jan. 10 at 1:51 p.m. The fire department extinguished the fire without any injuries reported, and the reporting police officer, an evidence technician, came to photograph the scene.
The origin of the fire in the unit appeared to be an air fryer, which had been left on to finish cooking some chicken wings while the owners left the unit. A large, charred item on the stove, later found to contain chicken wings, was identified as the air fryer. Another unit, which was unoccupied and being remodeled, had been forced open by the fire department because there was no response inside.
Bongs stolen
The front glass door of OG Smoke Shop, 1215A Harlem Ave., was discovered broken on Jan. 6 at 9:11 a.m. Police observed the front door glass shattered and several glass display cases opened and damaged. Items were missing, including three glass bongs valued at $300 each, some vape pens, and three cartoon character glass bongs, including Spiderman and Superman, valued at $100 each. No attempts appeared to have been made to break into the cash register.
Experienced burglar uses suitcase to rob CVS
A man entered CVS, 7216 Circle Ave., on Jan. 7 at 3:08 p.m. and filled a suitcase with items. He left without paying for them and headed toward the CTA Green Line station.
After positively identifying the man, police stopped him and discovered he had 32 previous larceny convictions.
Car parts missing
The rear spoiler and one rear bumper light were removed from a car parked in a driveway on the 7500 block of Lexington Street sometime between Jan. 6 and Jan. 8 at 1:04 p.m., when the owner called the police. No other property appeared to be missing or damaged.
"As Seen on TV" items taken
A man was caught by police on Jan. 9 at 11:36 a.m. after stealing over $200 in items, including "As Seen on TV" items, from Walgreens, 7200 Roosevelt Rd.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Jan. 4-10, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
