A 71-year-old woman was the 12th Forest Park resident to succumb to COVID-19. Suffering from several underlying conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, hypertension, Parkinson's disease and cerebrovascular disease, she died on Oct. 8 at Alden Town Manor in Cicero.

Prior to her death, the last Forest Park resident to die from COVID-19 was an 86-year-old man on Aug. 14. His underlying conditions included diabetes, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

In total, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH), Forest Park has seen 315 cases of COVID-19 among residents as of Oct. 13, with a rate of 2,223 per 100,000 people.

This rate is relatively low compared to nearby towns. For example, Berwyn's rate is 4,248 cases per 100,000 residents. Maywood's is 3,325. Melrose Park's is 6,379. River Forest and North Riverside's rates are lower, at 1,602 and 1,933 respectively as of Oct. 13.

According to CCDPH, there were nine new cases of COVID-19 reported in town last week, and the percent change in confirmed cases in the past two weeks in Forest Park has fallen by 32.1 percent. Forest Park's rate of reported cases has been below the average rate for suburban Cook County.
