If you've wanted to join a basketball league or play softball wearing a costume, now's your chance. The Park District of Forest Park is gearing up for two fall adult sports leagues.

The best part? No talent necessary.

"We've had teams with all levels of players, from travel basketball teams to families who want to play together," said Fitness Center Manager Andrew Doss, referring to the Men's Basketball League that runs from Nov. 4 to Jan. 9 at the Roos Recreation Center.

"Last year we had four teams sign up and compete. This year we're hoping for eight," said Doss. Players must be 17 and up and must register as a team.

"It's a fun but competitive league," said Doss. "There are cash prizes for the winning teams, but even if you only win a single game, you're going to have a great time. And it's great exercise."

Bleachers are set up in the gym at the Roos for friends and family to watch the games, which are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m.

Doss said the park district hires Best Officials, the same company they use for the hugely popular softball leagues, to provide referees and umpires for the games. "It makes it as easy as possible," he said.

Teams are also forming for the Haunted Halloween co-ed 16-inch softball tournament on Oct. 19 at the Park District of Forest Park. Players 16 and up can register as a team. Because it's a Halloween-themed event, players are strongly encouraged to wear costumes.

"So far we have five teams signed up," said Doss. "But we've had a lot of interest. We're hoping for between eight and 16 teams."

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at this all-day event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Anyone interested in signing up for the Men's Basketball League or the Co-ed Haunted Halloween Softball Tournament can visit the park district website at pdofp.org.
