Richard Danca Scafidi, 77, of Forest Park, died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018. Born on July 8, 1941 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to Eleanor and Richard Danca, he grew up in Forest Park and spent holidays and summer vacations with family in Minnesota and Michigan. His father was killed in World War II, and he was later adopted by Joseph Scafidi, the father of his dear sister Marisue (the late Mike) Hojnacki.

He graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago and worked as an industrial designer. An avid sailor, skier, and cyclist in his younger years, he loved Forest Park and served on the Zoning Board of Appeals in his retirement. In 1973, he married the late Anne Scafidi.

Richard Scafidi was the father of Sarah (Jeff) Merkley and Katherine Scafidi; and the grandpa of Henry.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 1 p.m., at Oak Park's Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St., followed by private interment.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to The Alliance for the Great Lakes, www.greatlakes.org.
