In a narrow vote Monday, the Forest Park Village Council banned so-called “sweepstakes machines” from town. They have begun turning up in gas stations and bars in the village. As Commissioner Joe Byrnes said in opposing such below-the-radar devices, “These machines are gambling machines, make no mistake about it.”
We agree. And after local voters chose to prohibit video gaming in town by referendum, banning sweepstakes machines is the correct follow step.
