Although Proviso East lost to Curie 50-30 in the Riverside-Brookfield Sectional semifinals of the Class 4A state playoffs, the Pirates turned in another winning season under the guidance of head coach Donnie Boyce.

Proviso East finished with a 17-8 record, highlighted by an 83-70 victory over highly regarded Fenwick in the Fenton Regional final. Senior guard Trevor Moore scored a game-high 37 points (including eight 3-pointers) to overwhelm the Friars. Quinlan Bennett and Jordan Morris also played well for the victors. Nationally-ranked sophomore DJ Steward led Fenwick with 26 points.

The senior-laden Pirates also notched impressive wins against rival Proviso West, New Trier, St. Joseph and St. Patrick.

Boyce, a former NBA player and member of the two state title teams at Proviso East, welcomes back five varsity players next season.
