Man beats woman at McDonald's with wet-floor sign

Police were summoned to the McDonald's in the 400 block of Desplaines Ave. around 11:45 a.m. on March 12 after a man allegedly beat a female acquaintance about the face and head with a wet-floor sign, causing lacerations to her nose and cheek. Police said the victim recognized her assailant from the PADS homeless shelter. Surveillance video reportedly showed the two arguing and the man knocking the woman to the ground, grabbing a wet floor sign and striking the woman several times. Police say the man told them that the woman had thrown coffee at him, but police observed that his clothes were not wet and that no such incident occurred in the surveillance video. The woman later told police she had refused the man's advances when they were at the homeless shelter. The 43-year-old Franklin Park man was charged with battery.

iPhone snatched

A woman riding the westbound Blue Line train toward Forest Park had her iPhone grabbed by a male offender who snatched the device and fled at the Harlem platform around 4 p.m., March 12.

Parking meter stolen

A village parking meter in the 400 block of Elgin Ave. was completely removed from the ground and is missing. Village employees said the meter likely contained around $30 in change. Estimated loss was $160.

Expensive whiskey shoplifted

Employees at USA Beverage told police a man entered the shop around 11 p.m. on March 14 and allegedly reached over the back side of the checkout counter and grabbed one 750 ml bottle of Chivas Regal Scotch Whiskey, worth around $299, then fled the store without paying. A clerk chased the 49-year-old Berwyn man down the sidewalk and two passing sheriff's deputies joined the chase and arrested the man, who had dropped the bottle on the sidewalk. He was charged with retail theft.

Catalytic converter theft

A catalytic converter was stolen from a 2003 Honda Element parked overnight in the 1000 block of Desplaines on March 7. Loss is estimated at $478.

These items were obtained from the records of the Forest Park Police Department, March 7-17, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anyone named in the report has only been charged with a crime.
