Angelo Spinelli, 102, died on Feb. 22, 2015 and his wife, Dorothy Spinelli (nee Bruschi), 102, died on May 1, 2018. They were married on Jan. 5, 1937 at Our Lady of Pompeii Church and returned to that church on April 20, 2014 to celebrate 77 years of marriage. The couple were residents of Forest Park since 1948 and were part of St. Bernardine Church, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus (Angelo was a 4th Degree Knight), Italian Catholic Federation, the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts.
They lived the life that made them happy and had many friends who, unfortunately, have all passed. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved to cook using old-world recipes passed down from her mother. She told wonderful stories about growing up during Prohibition times in the Taylor Street neighborhood of Chicago.
Angelo was a hard worker who drove a truck (member of the AFL-CIO) for 62 years. He could fix anything, from cars to rebuilding their home from the bottom up.
In 2014, they were honored by the village of Forest Park when Circle Avenue was named "Honorary Angelo and Dorothy Spinelli Drive."
Angelo and Dorothy were the parents of Antoinette, Ben (Millie) and Art (Diane); grandparents of Tom, Beth (Joe Sarnello), Edward (Rose), Robbie (Tiffany), Angela (Bryan Tomkins), Anthony (Laura) and Michelle Spinelli; great-grandparents of Joseph, Gigi, Sara, Eric, Isabella, Jessica, Joseph, Alyssa, Kailee, Cade, Colin, Vincent and Briana; great-great-grandparents of twins, Kate and Owen; and great friends of Maria and Jim Laudont and their family. They are survived by their sister, Phyllis Tucillo and many nieces and nephews. The couple were preceded in death by their parents, Benedict and Antoinette Spinelli and Alisa and Arthur Quarto; siblings, Libra (Samuel) Trentacosta, Bruno Bruschi, Julia (Carmen) Alanzo, Ann (John) Stringini), Arthur (Josie) Quarto, Carmella (Herman) Nick, and May Hanson.
Visitation and Mass were celebrated on May 7 at St. Bernardine Catholic Church, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home.
