D209 extends principal contracts

Patrick Hardy and Bessie Karvelas get 2-year contracts

During a May 14 regular meeting, the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education voted unanimously to approve contract extension for the principals at Proviso East High School and Proviso Math and Science Academy. 

Patrick Hardy, the principal of Proviso East since 2015, was given a 2-year contract for the 2019-20 and 202-21 school years. His contract is effective July 1, and includes a salary of $168,632. 

Bessie Karvelas, the principal at PMSA since 2013, was given a 2-year contract for the 2019-20 and 202-21 school years. Her contract is effective July 1, and includes a salary of $164,364. 

The D209 school board was scheduled to vote on a 2-year contract for Nia Abdullah, who was hired in 2017, during a regular meeting on June 11. Her contract, if approved, would include a salary of $163,301.
