As Illinois has moved into Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan, the Park District of Forest Park is opening up some of its facilities once again.
"Residents and staff have patiently awaited the move into Phase 4. With safety first and foremost in our minds, we look forward to slowly transitioning back into the swing of things," said the park district on its website.
The in-line skating rink, skate park and tennis courts opened in June, and day camp and tennis lessons began. Now the park is opening up a few more facilities and programs.
Outdoor equipment can once again be used as the tape's been removed and patrons can access playgrounds, the fitness court, and the outdoor workout equipment again.
- No more than 50 people on the playground at a time
- Masks should be worn in the presence of others
- Social distancing guidelines should be followed
- Anyone feeling sick should not use the equipment
The soccer field and outdoor bathrooms are also open again, and outdoor facilities and spaces can be rented to the public.
Phase 4 allows limited operation of fitness facilities, and the park district will tentatively reopen the Roos Recreation Center on July 13. Equipment will be relocated around the building to ensure social distancing guidelines are followed while providing a space for people to work out.
Half of the basketball gym will be filled with cardio equipment, and the other half will be available by appointment only. Patrons can reserve a hoop, but group sizes will be limited to three and contact strictly prohibited.
Guidelines at the Roos will be in place to adhere to CDC recommendations and to keep staff and members safe. Maintaining proper social distancing, disinfecting machines and equipment, and wearing masks will be part of the protocol.
"Failure to adhere to any of the guidelines set forth may result in expulsion from the facility and potential forfeiture of membership for repeat offenses," said an announcement from the Roos Recreation Center.
Questions can be directed to Andrew Doss, Roos Recreation Center coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the administration building at 708-366-7500.
Summer sports programming and dance classes at the park district will begin soon. More information is available on the park district's website at www.pdofp.org/.
"With each re-opening, understand that staff are taking extra measures to ensure your safety by following all social distancing, crowd size, cleaning and disinfecting guidelines set forth by the CDC," said the park district in a memo. The park district can be reached at 708-366-7500 for more information.
