Two COVID-19 deaths this month have brought the town's total deaths among residents to 11. There had been no COVID-related deaths among residents since July 4.

Both were Black male residents of Aperion Care Forest Park, 8200 Roosevelt Rd. The first, a 66-year-old man, died of complications from COVID-19 on Aug. 2. He also suffered from hypertension, end stage renal failure, coronary artery disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The second was an 86-year-old man who died on Aug. 14. His underlying conditions included diabetes, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Of the 11 COVID-19 deaths in Forest Park, eight have been residents of Aperion Care.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, Forest Park has seen 222 cases of COVID-19, according to data from the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) as of Aug. 17. This represents a rate of 1,567 per 100,000 people, relatively low compared to other nearby towns. Maywood, for example, was reported as having a rate of 2,751; Melrose Park a rate of 4,907; and Berwyn a rate of 3,001. River Forest's rate on Aug. 17 was reported at 1,021.

Forest Park is grouped with all of suburban Cook County in the state's regional breakdown to monitor resurgence of COVID-19 cases. This section of the state, Region 10, has seen an increase in percent positive over the past month, rising steadily from 4.4 percent on July 15 to 6 percent on Aug. 12.

As of Aug. 17, however, the region had not met the criteria for increased mitigation from the state.
