Dolores “Dee” Crowe Jacob Holub, 99, a lifelong resident of Forest Park, died on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016. Dolores was born to Elsie (nee Heller) and Bruce Crowe at Oak Park Hospital in 1917. She was a tremendous supporter of everything “Forest Park.” Reassigned as a child to the brand new Betsy Ross School, her teacher complimented her on making the most accurate map of the village in the many years she had assigned that project. Dolores reminded the teacher that Jacob’s Pharmacy, her stepdad’s business, had two locations in town, and with her mother driving, she would deliver prescriptions and medical supplies seven days a week.
Dee was the owner of the Glamour Box beauty salon during World War II. She was a Sunday School teacher, a Girl Scout leader, a 50-year member of adult Girl Scout Troop “007,” a District 91 school board member, a representative of the United Way, and one of the founding members of the Forest Park Historical Society.
“On Proviso” was one of the last songs she could sing during the progression of her Alzheimer’s disease.
She joins her husband of 54 years, the late Emil Holub and her son, the late James Mudra. She is survived by her son, Dean Holub of Forest Park; her daughter, Debbie (Harry) Vander Krabben of Peachtree City, Georgia; her daughter-in-law, Pat Hopson of Chicago; and her niece, Joy Bandemer of Scandia, Minnesota.
Memorials to her church of many years First United Church of Christ, Forest Park, are welcome.
Services were held at Hursen Funeral Home in Hillside.
