A business that was denied a license to provide salon and spa services is appealing that decision and on March 15 will argue its case before the zoning board of appeals.

Team Blonde, 7442 Madison St., was told in January that it must stop offering haircuts, massages and nail treatments to its customers because of a local ordinance that prohibits such services from being offered within 500 feet of each other. There are several such businesses within close proximity to the store. But for several years already, Team Blonde has been offering salon services even though it did not have a permit. According to one of the store’s owners, Heidi Vance, village officials had said that because the business is primarily focused on retail the 500-foot rule did not apply.

The zoning board’s decision is strictly advisory, and any recommendation it makes will be taken into consideration by the village council, which has the final say.
