Walter R. Kelly, 79, Former Oak Park fire chief
Walter R. Kelly, 79, of Forest Park, died of natural causes on March 24, 2007 at Loyola Hospital. A Navy veteran, Kelly was a lifelong resident of Forest Park. He served as a fireman in Oak Park for over 30 years, eventually earning promotion to fire chief. After retiring, he was elected to the Dist. 91 Board of Education in Forest Park in the early 1990s. He was also a lover of antique autos who took a particular interest in Model A Fords.
Mr. Kelly is survived by his son, Walter (the late Donna) Kelly; his daughters, Christine (Cliff) Crippen and Karen Kelly; his grandchildren, Mark (Keli) Hardtke, Ryan Hardtke and Michael (Jory) Lynn; and his great-grandchild, Mattie C. Lynn. His wife of 47 years, Marian, preceded him in death.
Visitation is March 28 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Adolf Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private.
