Through the month of November, or as long as supplies last, the Forest Park Fire Department is giving away smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to residents of the community. Several hundred of the units are available, according to Chief Steve Glinke, thanks to a federal grant program.

The fire department recommends changing the batteries in smoke detectors twice a year.

To pickup either of the free devices, visit the fire station at 7625 Wilcox, which is adjacent to village hall on the corner of Desplaines Avenue. The department can be reached on its non-emergency line at 366-1234.
