A 4 a.m. fire destroyed a garage in the 1000 block of Troost early Tuesday morning.

A PT Cruiser parked on the garage apron was charred. Flames spread to two adjacent structures, destroying two vehicles in the garage next door and damaging a multi-unit building across the alley.

“I thought the water pipes were breaking. Hard, loud pops and cracks,” a neighbor posted on Forest Park Forums, an online discussion board. Another noted that the garage was reduced to “a few pieces of siding left and a pile of black 2 x 4s.”

Fire Chief Steve Glinke said no one was injured in the fire. Fire department investigators and police field-interviewed neighbors, but the cause is still undetermined, he said. The blaze took 15 minutes to extinguish.

Glinke said last summer a spate of Forest Park garage fires were attributed to a juvenile suspect who confessed. “There is no reason whatsoever to believe that this [fire] is related to incidents last summer.”
