Latasha and Dimitrius Jones know how to beat the heat. They, along with many others, were seen having a couple of cool ones at Brown Cow. Deborah Hoskins joined them but their mother was busy at her beauty shop, Before and After, on Roosevelt.

“Divas’ Crossing” photos didn’t make it in time for the Summer Fest, but here they are. Everyone loved ’em at the fest!

Kevin Nutley was named Midwest Conference North Division Pitcher of the Year. His baseball team, the St. Norbert College Knights, won the Midwest Conference Championship in May and Kevin is only the third pitcher in St. Norbert history to receive this recognition. Proud parents are David and Sandy Nutley; ecstatic grandparents are Angie Martinski and Ed and Sarah Nutley.

Congratulations to Patrick Dorneker, who was named to the Dean’s List at Creighton University, a Catholic university in Omaha, Neb.

“A natural lawn starts with healthy soil which you can attain by giving it proper nutrients.” Chemical applications are not recommended since those chemicals eventually seep down into the water table (water your children and grandchildren will be drinking).

To determine which nutrients your soil needs, you can contact STAT Analysis Corporation (HJM), the nearest facility to Forest Park. They are located at 2242 W. Harrison, Suite 200, Chicago (Phone: 312-733-0551). Visit STATinfo@STATAnalysis.com for specific fees, services and methods for sampling. Let’s do our best to save the planet.

A study of dogs exposed to the most frequently used pesticide, 24-D found that when dog owners applied it more than four times a year on their lawn, the incidence of canine cancer doubled. This is true of dogs from homes where the owners had applied 24-D or had it applied by commercial lawn companies.
