You had better be on your best behavior, sitting up straight, feet on the floor, not talking , not leave the room without permission, I told you to sit up straight! It was Sister Bernadine Wjoczyjbdizcz and company at Saint Bernardine’s “Bingo Bash”, well worth the dime you had to pay for the bingo card last Saturday night, February 16. One bingo winner was much loved Gloria Hansberry, former teacher at Saint B’s . Sorry no photos, it was forbidden.
You don’t have to go far for an enjoyable week end. Forest Park has activities to please every taste. If you missed the Bingo Bash, I hope you got to the library for the Chinese Music concert celebrating the Moon by Kerry Leung. Mr. Leung displayed and demonstrated about seven different instruments to a full crowd in the Austin Room. The Irdu seemed to be a favorite. In case you are unfamiliar with this two stringed beauty, it is played with a bow drawn between the two strings making a heavenly sound hard to describe. Mr. and Mrs. Rodger Brayden were among the listeners. Mrs. Brayden and Mr. Leung had a lively conversation after the concert in Manderin Chinese. Christine Brayden was born in mainland China and grew up in Taiwan.
Coming up this week at the library is “Book Buddies” on Wednesday where children age 6 to 9 can read to younger children. So bring the little ones in to be read to by a “big” kid. Everyone benefits.
Saint John will present a CELEBRATION OF MUSIC at 4 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 24. You’ll get the adult choir, a young adult choir, a brass choir, bell choir , a soul stirring afternoon—no admission!! And refreshments will be served following the concert. In case you’re new in town, Saint John is at 305 Circle.
Jill Wagner and her scouts are still buzzing with activities. This Saturday, Feb. 23rd, they will have a pancake breakfast for us at Saint Peter’s. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and lasts til around noon. So get over there before the pancakes are all gone. See you there.
