School technology is new, Betsy Ross is getting bigger, and teachers are gearing up for the Common Core — parents and community members will hear a lot about those issues at the Forest Park Elementary Schools “State of the District Address” on April 16.
Last year, Superintendent Lou Cavallo gave a more “interactive” presentation, where audience members asked questions. This year, parents can expect to hear about the new one-to-one Chromebook technology initiative and how construction is coming along at Betsy Ross School, 1315 Marengo Ave. The Wednesday event, hosted by GarfieldSchool, 543 Hannah St., will also address how teachers are preparing for Common Core and the new PARCC exams slated for spring 2015.
The superintendent will address topics pertaining to the six “core values” of District 91 — academic growth for all students, communication, character education, physical plants, teacher quality and budget management.
Last year, parents in the audience also asked about foreign languages. Biking to school and a reconstituted PTO for the north side of town were also topics last year, as well questions about whether the district was “too rich.”
Wednesday’s event begins at 6:30 p.m. Babysitting will be provided by the district.
