Forest Park police said they have a person in custody in the hit-and-run death of Forest Park cyclist Jeffrey A. Schultz.
“There is a person of interest in the station,” said Deputy Chief Thomas Aftanas Tuesday. Aftanas said charges may be filed later today.
Schultz, 40, of the 1400 block of Elgin Avenue, had been watching the Blackhawks game at a local tavern close to his home June 1. He was struck and killed around 10:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Harlem Avenue by the driver of a Honda Accord, Aftanas said. The driver fled the area. Schultz was declared dead at the scene.
The Honda was recovered by police, abandoned, in Berwyn at the intersection of 15th Street and Clinton Avenue, Aftanas said. Front-end damage on the Accord matched pieces of the car left at the scene, investigators said.
The suspect being interviewed is not the registered owner of the vehicle, Aftanas said.
