Students and staff returned to class around 1:45 p.m. at Proviso East High School after a bomb threat caused an evacuation of the building this morning, the district reported.

The threat “proved to be unfounded following an investigation,” a statement from the district said.

“The threat was called into the Maywood Police Department. The Maywood Fire Department ordered alarms pulled and the building evacuated. Maintenance and security staff at Proviso East assisted the Cook County bomb squad through the building to clear it before staff and students were allowed to reenter the building at about 1:45 p.m. All students, faculty, and staff are safe,” said a statement from District Spokesman Rob Daniels.
