The Historical Society of Forest Park will present a musical journey through the history of Forest Park with a concert Saturday, Jan. 24.
The concert will feature Forest Park’s oldest singing organization, the Harlem Maenner und Damen Chor Choir (founded in 1891 when Forest Park was still called Harlem).
Billed as “A musical trip through the ages for all ages,” the concert will feature music from German folk songs through classical, Latin and American Folk and Jazz.
Sarah and Daniel Gasse, local string teachers, will perform classical string repertoire. Latin music will be performed by Claudia and Rosalio Medina. Also performing will be a children’s Latin folk act called “Los Primos” composed of Forest Park children.
Madison Street guitar folk duo Tam and Dan will drop by. Also singing will be Forest Park jazz singer Alyssa Allgood, whose self-produced CD won DownBeat Magazine’s national Student Music Award for best collegiate jazz vocal soloist.
The concert takes place from 6 – 8 p.m. at 1st United Church in Forest Park, 1000 Elgin Ave.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. so visitors can drop by the Historical Society exhibit at the church: Forest Park: A Love Story, said Historical Society Executive Director Diane Hansen Grah.
