Forest Park police say a confrontation between gang members during the early-morning hours of May 24 erupted in gunfire in the 400 block of Circle Avenue. No one was injured during the incident, but at least one bullet struck the front of a home on the block, according to police.
According to the police report, an officer was traveling westbound on Madison Street passing Circle Avenue about 3:10 a.m. when he saw a group of subjects in front of a residence in the 400 block of Circle Avenue.
As the officer reversed his squad car in order to head south on Circle, he reported hearing three pops, similar to fireworks and then saw a subject running westbound in an alley.
The remaining subjects entered a parked car and attempted to drive away before being stopped by the officer.
Police said the subjects in the vehicle were driving south on Circle Avenue when they saw two men walking across the street from west to east. The two men reportedly made “verbal gang threats” to the subjects inside the vehicle, who stopped, got out and went to confront them.
At that time, according to the police report, one of the men who had been walking across the street pulled out a dark-colored pistol and fired shots in the direction of the others.
The shooter and his companion fled through the alley, while the others ran back to their vehicle, which was stopped shortly afterward by police.
Police said the victims were uncooperative regarding a description of the offenders. Police were unable to locate any suspects.
