Officers find 3.5 pounds of unmedicinal marijuana
Michael Bertucci, of Kankakee, has been charged with one count of delivery of cannabis over 30 grams and one count of possession of cannabis over 30 grams. The 41-year-old’s 2007 Dodge Ram was stopped on Aug. 3 while traveling southbound on Harlem Avenue. His truck was pulling a boat without a license plate or tail lights.
After approaching the vehicle to speak with Bertucci, police officers smelled marijuana and searched the car and boat. They recovered around 3.5 pounds of marijuana, worth several thousand dollars. Aside from the drugs, officers also found a few thousand dollars in cash, burglary tools, gloves, a police scanner and a police handcuff key.
Officers discovered Bertucci had an active arrest warrant for burglary issued by the Arlington Heights Police Department.
Brent Burge, of Chicago, has been charged with one count of felony retail theft after attempting to steal $100 worth of headphones from Walmart, 1300 Desplaines Avenue. On Aug. 3 around 3 p.m., the 26-year-old man placed the electronics in his backpack and proceeded to buy a single loaf of bread at the self-checkout. However, Walmart employees witnessed the entire incident and detained Burge until authorities arrived.
On July 7, an unknown individual removed two packages, worth around $60, from the front porch of a house on the 1000 block of Lathrop Avenue. One of the residents did see the delivered packages on the porch around 4:30 p.m. on her way to school, but she was running late and did not move the items inside.
USPS tracking information shows the items were delivered on July 7 around 2 p.m. A neighbor did find one of the packages, which contained a book, opened on her front lawn. The other package was never recovered. The month-old theft was not reported until this week.
On Aug. 5, a 19-year-old man reported his $300 black Trek Verve bike, which was locked up, had been removed from the south side of the CTA Blue Line lot, 711 Desplaines Avenue, sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
Someone stole a landscaping tool, worth around $1,000, from Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 Cermak Road, sometime between August 2 and 6.
On Aug. 3, a 54-year-old woman living on the 800 block of Dunlop Avenue reported her son’s $1,500 Trek Y3 bike missing from her garage. The woman told officers her garage door had been open most of the day because work was being done on the house. She also said she had seen a teenager in her garage around 6:30 p.m. that day. Upon asking the boy why he was in her garage, he allegedly told her he was retrieving a basketball that had rolled in.
On August 8, between noon and 8 p.m., someone stole a $150 Schwinn bike from a garage on the 1000 block of Elgin Avenue.
Burglary from motor vehicle
On Aug. 8, a 21-year-old was moving into a residence on the 1000 block of Beloit Avenue. Around 4 p.m., while the man moved items inside, an unknown individual stole a $4,000 Apple computer from the bed of the man’s unattended Ford F250 truck. Two other laptop computers were also in the truck but were not removed.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Aug. 3-9, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
