Congratulations to Susan Ross (known now as S. Elizabeth Ross), former cellist who is now beginning a career as a genealogist. She is Susan in the music world and Liz in her newfound career.
Liz is anxious to help research your family tree. She presented an evening program at our library recently, but unfortunately the message got to me too late for last week’s paper. She can be reached at P.O. Box 6193, River Forest 60305, or 708-257-67874. Liz lectures in the Chicago area and writes “2nd Saturday Genealogy.” Her lectures are designed for beginning and intermediate researchers but will be helpful to the person who has “done some researching” and now wants to be more thorough. She writes a column for CAGGNI and is a member of NGS, APG and numerous state and local societies. Ms. Ross can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or P.O. Box 6193, River Forest 60305.
I’ve been trying to track down Kia the duck lady, and her lovely duck Hilda, but without any luck. However, John Fabbrini and his dogs, Roscoe and Winston were walking down Desplaines the other day and saw a duck trying to cross the street. John grabbed the duck and took him across the street to the police station. Officer Lang was there and suggested that John take the duck to the zoo. “Good idea” said Fabbrini. The next day Lang saw John still carrying the duck. “I thought you were going to take that duck to the zoo,” said Lang. “I did” said John. “We had such a good time today I’m taking him to the ball game!”
Quacks me up every time.
Several Forest Parkers saw the lunar eclipse on Sunday night. I hope you were one of them. I fell asleep.
We missed a very special day in the Abramic religion calendar. Sept. 24, the feast of Kurban Bajram is celebrated. That is the staying of God’s hand before Abraham slew his son Isaac. I wonder that more Christians and Jews do not observe this event. It’s pretty important in all three of Abraham’s descendents. Let’s start celebrating a new holiday. They tell me “kurban” refers to lamb, “bajram” to Abraham. I think Pope Francis would like us to know about these things.
Birthday greetings this week go to Daniel Loftus, Mike O’Connor, Diane Rice, Sheryl Neff, Paul Jargstorf, Robert Mintz, Christina Respass, Nick Mangiarsina, Nathan Johnson, Derek Gist, Allen Latall, Jason Fabiani, Gary Almeroth, Yo Yo Ma, Patrick Michael Olson, and Morgan Hosty.
