While studying spiders, Mrs. O’Connell’s class integrated technology to share what they learned. The students researched three types of spiders: taratulas, black widows, and wolf spiders.

Once they were done with their research, Mrs. Walsh, the district’s Director of Instructional Technology, helped Mrs. O’Connell teach her first graders how to make a presentation using Google Slides, a program similar to Power Point. The students each created a title slide and a slide for each spider. They also learned how to search for images and embed them in their presentations.

The students enjoyed all phases of this project, and had fantastic presentations when they were done. What a fun way to work on research, writing, and oral presentations in first grade!
