*** Effective March 18th, Progress Center for Independent Living must close every Friday, due to the ongoing budget impasse in Illinois. ***

LET’S CONTINUE TO MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD!

Consumers continue to suffer AND more hard working advocates become unemployed…

=============< “We WILL NOT go quietly!” >=============

Time to continue advocating to save Progress CIL (and all CILs) for our consumers. The state has not paid any of the money that they owe Progress Center for over nine months now! Because of this, Progress Center has been forced to lay-off six hard-working advocates. In addition, we must close every Friday. Progress Center works with people with disabilities as peers and empowers them to live independent, productive lives within society while building their spirits of dignity, self-sufficiency and self-confidence. Progress Center has helped over 200 people move out of nursing homes and move into the community to live independent lives in society. Progress Center helps people connect with potential Personal Assistants who they can interview and possibly hire to help them with activities of daily living so that they can remain living independently within the community. It costs the state less money (1/3 less) to provide the supports needed to help a person with a disability to remain living independent lives within society than it does to house those same people in a nursing home.

Our Consumers are suffering.

Please join us in making the following calls every day to urge our legislators to get to work at reaching common ground and passing budget that fully funds home services and centers for Independent Living. There is power in numbers. The more people these leaders hear from every day, the bigger the impact it will make on them of the need to support Home Services and Centers for Independent Living. If you need assistance in finding the names and/or phone numbers of your state legislators, call the Illinois State Board of Elections at 312-814-6440 and press 0. If you still have trouble call Clark at 708-209-1500.
