Waking up on the wrong side of the train

A 32-year-old woman was charged with aggravated assault after waving a broken bottle at a CTA employee at 711 Desplaines Ave. on July 11 around 5:30 a.m. The CTA employee saw, according to the police report, the woman sleeping on a train car he was clearing of passengers. He woke her up and she “became irate” and then began “swinging the jagged edges of the broken bottle” at him. He was not cut. Officers eventually arrived and took the woman into custody.

Bike theft

An Oak Park woman told Forest Park police, July 10, someone had taken her locked white and blue bike from a rack on Circle Avenue near the Harlem Avenue CTA Green Line Station. The theft occurred sometime between 11:45 a.m. and 12:25 p.m.

A $300 bike in a garage on the 200 block of Elgin was stolen sometime between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on July 13. A neighbor may have accidently left the garage door open, according to the police report. 

Counterfeit purchase

A 35-year-old Chicago man was arrested, July 11 around 6:30 p.m., after trying to return about $1,200 worth of merchandise to Walmart, 1300 Desplaines Ave. He had bought the merchandise about an hour earlier with counterfeit $100 bills at a Walmart in Chicago. 

Walmart employees at the Forest Park location called police after the 35-year-old tried to return items at the customer service desk. The employees had contacted the Chicago location after realizing the items had been purchased that same day and were told the purchase was made with counterfeit money. 

Officers later searched the 35-year-old’s car, which had multiple bullet holes, and found an additional 31 counterfeit bills. 

Retail theft

A 44-year-old Chicago man was arrested for retail theft after stuffing about $1,350 worth of children’s clothes in an empty car seat box inside Walmart, 1300 Desplaines Ave., on July 15 around 5 p.m. 

The offender along with another person, removed the car seat and filled the box with the clothes. He then tried to use the self-checkout register and pay for the face value of the car seat, along with a car phone charger, totaling about $75. He was stopped by police and Walmart security shortly after leaving the store.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, July 10-16, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
