Maywood man arrested for stolen gun, drug possession
Officers found what appeared to be narcotics and a stolen gun during a traffic stop on Sept. 12 around 5 p.m. Timothy Valentine, of Maywood, was stopped after he failed to yield right-of-way while turning onto Garfield Street from Harlem Avenue. He pulled over near the intersection of Garfield Street and Home Avenue in Oak Park.
After observing nervous behavior and seeing a gun flashlight in plain view, officers searched Valentine’s car and found a Heckler & Koch .40 mm handgun and 55 grams of suspected crack cocaine in a secret compartment under the back seat.
Valentine was arrested for possession of a weapon by a felon, possession and delivery of a controlled substance, and failure to yield while turning left.
Maywood detectives reported to Forest Park police that Valentine was under investigation there as well.
Residential burglaries
Police were called to a home on the 200 block of Lathrop on Sept. 11 around noon about a burglary. The victim told officers that sometime between 7 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 2 a.m. on Sept. 9, an unknown person broke into his basement apartment while he slept. His state I.D., a debit card, a camera and a watch, all of which had been sitting on a desk, were taken.
A woman called police officers to her home on the 7600 block of Harrison Street on Sept. 16 around 3:30 p.m. after discovering items missing from her unlocked garage. The missing items were a Garmin GPS and a Ryobi reciprocating saw.
Counterfeit money used
Two fake $100 bills were used at the newly-opened HOBO on Roosevelt Road. Employees discovered the first bill on Sept. 6 and the second on Sept. 14. Both were reported to police on Sept. 15 around 4 p.m.
Both bills appear to be “washed” a process in which a $10 bill is bleached and then reprinted to look like a $100 bill upon casual inspection.
Trespassing and battery
Police responded to a call at a home on the 500 block of Grove Lane on Sept. 16 about an intruder trying to enter his home around midnight.
The victim said he was relaxing on his back fenced patio when a man appeared, brandishing a brick, and tried to push the victim. The victim pushed back and threw a water bottle at the suspect, at which point the intruder ran off.
Police found a man matching the victim’s description, who was detained and then positively identified by the victim.
Battery
CTA Blue Line employees called police to the Desplaines Avenue station on Sept. 18 around 1:45 p.m. A CTA employee was choked by a man who accused the employee of removing him from the train on another occasion. The employee was able to break free and place the subject in handcuffs until the police arrived.
Bicycles stolen
Two bicycles were stolen from a home on the 100 block of Lathrop Avenue. Police responded to the call at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 14. The homeowner said one blue adult 10-speed bike and one orange children’s bike, along with the chain that secured them to a porch post, were taken sometime during the night of Sept. 13.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Sept. 11-17, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
