Opportunity Knocks Block Party
Come on down to the Opportunity Knocks Block Party and enjoy great food, drinks, music and more. Local food vendors will feature burgers, and it will be up to the people to decide whose burger is champ! Fun runs from 2 to 10 p.m. on June 16 at Constitution Court in Forest Park, between Madison Street and Thomas Avenue, next to Louie’s Grill. $10 suggested donation. $1 for all food and beverage tickets.
Book Swap & Ice Cream Social
Library officials combine books and ice cream at their Book Swap & Ice Cream Social at 6 p.m. on June 20 at the Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor, 7347 Madison St. Everyone who brings a book will get a free scoop of ice cream, and will also be eligible to take another’s used book! Officials ask that you don’t bring musty or torn books, and that attendees don’t bring encyclopedias, textbooks, periodicals or technical, legal or medical information books.
West Suburban Jazz Bus Tour
Healy’s Westside and Kagan & Gaines in Forest Park will join area venues in hosting jazz shows at 6 p.m. on July 25. Buy your tickets at jazzdesires.org before June 25 and pay only $25 for a promotional button to be worn the evening of the tour, entry into each venue and luxury bus transportation. Produced by Jazz Desires, a nonprofit that brings music to youth.
Forest Home Cemetery Bicycle Tour
Founded in 1873, Forest Home Cemetery holds the historic Haymarket Martyrs Monument, Tiffany Company monuments, a mysterious Druid monument and much more. No better way to see the large cemetery than by bicycle! Meet tour guide Anne Alt at 8:30 a.m. on July 8 in Fox Park in Oak Park, 624 S. Oak Park Ave. The ride will be a moderate pace, and last about 15-miles.
Geneaology Meet Up with Liz Ross
Learn about history and your family tree with genealogy professional Liz Ross. Talk starts at 9:30 a.m. on June 16 at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd.
Four Winds Casino Trip
Seniors, try your odds at a few of the 3,000 slot machines and gaming tables at the new Four Winds Casino in South Bend, Indiana on July 5. $41 residents; $45 non-residents. You must have a valid state ID or driver’s license with your full name, address, date of birth at time of payment. Reservations required.
