Drinking beer, carrying gun without a license
A Chicago man received a felony charge for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon on Sept. 25 when police spotted Terrance Mullen, 38, walking through the Dunkin Donuts and CVS parking lots at 7200 and 7216 Circle Ave. about 11:51 a.m., drinking what appeared to be beer from two containers. Officers stopped Mullen at the intersection of Franklin and Elgin, where he handed police his wallet for identification. Police saw he was drinking from a Bud Ice beer can. In his wallet, officers noticed a concealed carry license from the state of Wisconsin, and Mullen told police he had a gun, moving his hand toward his waistband. Police ordered him to place his hands above his head and pulled the gun from his waistband.
Mullen became agitated when police took his gun so officers handcuffed him. A name check revealed he had an active warrant for speeding out from Jefferson County. Police transferred him to the station, where it was revealed he did not have a valid Illinois concealed carry license for the loaded, semi-automatic gun he was carrying.
Late night fight on Madison
Police found three men kicking a man about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 at 7425 Madison St. Officers said the man was lying on the ground, while the group kicked him. When they got out of their squad car, the three men walked away. Officers stopped a Melrose Park man and a Maywood man who appeared intoxicated and told police they got in a fight “over a girl.” Police were not able to catch the third man who had been kicking the victim. The two in custody were cited for public fighting.
Man robs woman with stroller
A Forest Park woman walking on the 300 block of Desplaines about 5:50 p.m. on Sept. 29, stopped in front of her condo building to get her keys, when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her iPhone from her back pants pocket and then fled south on Desplaines.
Burglars break into apartment
Between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sept. 24, someone broke into an apartment building on the 900 block of Dunlop, ransacked an apartment and stole at least $300 cash. The victims said the front door to the building does not lock. Burglars broke down the door to their apartment.
Three cars broken into
Between 10 and 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 24, someone broke into a Ford Explorer parked on the 200 block of Marengo and stole a makeup bag, umbrella and assorted documents. The victim’s windshield wiper control handle was also broken off the steering column.
Between 4 p.m. on Sept. 23 and 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 25, someone broke into a Chevrolet parked on the 7200 block of Dixon and stole a GPS, valued at $149; photo printer, valued at $200; “tactical flashlight”; and loose change.
Sometime between 2:40 and 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 25, someone broke into a Volkswagen Passat parked on the 7200 block of Roosevelt and stole a gun safe and loaded gun. The victim said he went into a barber shop, returned and found his trunk open, with the gun safe and loaded Taurus PT111 pistol missing.
Two bikes stolen
At some point between 12 and 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 23, someone stole a bike valued at $120 locked in a rack at the intersection of Madison and Marengo, in front of O’Sullivan’s Public House. Surveillance video from O’Sullivan’s reveals a man attempting to “guess” the correct code for the bike lock, succeeding and then taking the Schwinn.
At some point between 12 p.m. on Sept. 29 and 11:31 a.m. on Sept. 30, someone stole a bicycle locked at the Harlem/Lake Green Line station, 1 S. Harlem Ave. The bicycle is valued at $350.
Purse stolen from Parky’s
A Brookfield woman’s purse was stolen from Parky’s Hot Dogs about 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 27. The victim told police she was eating outside, alone and put her purse on the floor of 329 Harlem. A few minutes later, a passerby approached her and asked if her purse was missing. She found it was, and told police it contained her wallet, checkbook, driver’s license and several credit cards. The passerby told police he saw a man run across the parking lot at 321 Harlem Ave. carrying a purse, jump in a red car and then flee.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Sept. 23-30, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
