Man loiterering leads to cannabis bust
Officers spotted a man loitering in the Thornton’s Gas Station parking lot, 601 Harlem Ave., about 5:46 p.m. on Oct. 15. He got into a Buick that pulled up, and police followed the car as it drove south on Harlem. Officers curbed the Buick and found Greene Wallin-Moore, 45, of Forest Park, in the driver’s seat, holding cash in his hand. They smelled cannabis coming from the car.
Wallin-Moore provided officers with his license and ID and got out of the car, where police patted him down looking for weapons. They felt a lump in his left pocket, which Wallin-Moore said was socks. It turned out to be 36 grams of cannabis.
A search of the car revealed 54 more grams of marijuana in a backpack in the back seat of the vehicle, as well as two cannabis cookies containing 37 grams of cannabis.
Wallin-Moore received a felony charge for delivery/manufacture of cannabis over 30 grams, along with a charge for possession of cannabis over 100 grams.
Armed robbery at Metro PCS
Police responded to an armed robbery at Metro PCS, 7226 W. Roosevelt, about 7:39 p.m. on Oct. 17. The victim told police a man wearing a black hoodie, blue winter cap, dark jeans and black and gray striped gloves entered with his head down and proceeded to look at phones. The man then went behind the counter and told the cashier, “open the drawer” and “don’t hit the button.” The employee did as she was told and the man took $20 in cash and $20.50 in change. He then told the woman “sorry” and fled by foot south on Elgin.
Driver attempts to avoid police
Officers pulled behind a Chevrolet about 1:11 a.m. on Oct. 18, and the vehicle immediately changed lanes to merge from Harlem onto Interstate-290. Police searched the vehicle in their database and discovered the vehicle was suspended for non-insurance and the owner’s license was suspended.
Officers curbed the vehicle on the eastbound entrance ramp to I-290. Camarius Furlow, 22, of Evergreen Park, handed officers his license and insurance information.
Police searched the Chevrolet and found two, .32 bullets loose on the floor. Before searching the trunk, Furlow told police they needed a warrant to see what was inside. Officers told Furlow they didn’t need a warrant, opened the trunk and discovered a black and pink handbag, which contained a revolver.
The revolver had five rounds of live ammunition inside, and two additional rounds of .32 live ammunition were discovered inside the bag. Police also noticed the weapon’s security number was scratched off.
Furlow held a valid Illinois firearm owners identification (FOID) card, but no concealed carry permit. He was transported to the police station, where he initially told police he didn’t own the revolver and didn’t know it was in his trunk. He said the gun was left by “somebody” in his trunk, but that he did not know who.
While on a break at work a few hours earlier, he said he opened his trunk and discovered the revolver there. He received a felony charge for defacing the identification mark on a firearm, and also for operating a motor vehicle with suspended insurance and driving with a suspended license.
Police uncover cannabis during cellphone stop
Police spotted Nathaniel Westbrooks Jr., 53, of Forest Park, driving with a cellphone to his ear at the intersection of Randolph and Elgin about 7:17 p.m. on Oct. 19. Officers curbed the Chevrolet Classic and discovered he had a suspended driver’s license.
A search of the vehicle revealed a 124-gram bag of cannabis lodged between the driver’s side and the vehicle’s center console.
Westbrooks was transported to the police station, where he said he planned to smoke it and not sell it. When asked how much he paid for the bag, he answered, “Not as much as this is going to cost me.”
He received a felony charge for delivery/manufacture of cannabis over 30 grams.
Burglar steals cash, earrings from car
Sometime between 9 a.m. on Oct. 14 and 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 15, someone broke into a Toyota parked on the 300 block of Elgin and stole a checkbook, keys and pair of earrings valued at $200. The victim believes she must have left her car unlocked.
Burglar steals Rolex, jewelry from home
At some point between 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 1 and 9:13 p.m. on Oct. 13, someone broke into a home on the 700 block of Franklin and stole a Rolex valued at $2,000, silver jewelry and $12,000 in cash. Police said there was no forced entry to the home.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Forest Park Police Department, Oct. 15-22, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
